Avengers star Robert Downey Jr. is turning his passion for classic cars into a new Discovery + series.
In a move that echoes Tony Stark’s love for new technology, Downey’s Dream Cars (working title) will follow the Iron Man star and a team of experts as they restore classic cars to make them more eco-friendly, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The unscripted series aims to update classic cars for the environmentally conscious while maintaining the beauty and aesthetic of the car.
“My goal is to showcase that it’s possible to keep the integrity of classic cars while leveraging new tech and innovation to make them more eco-friendly. I’m thrilled audiences will get to see this series on Discovery + later this year,” Downey Jr. . said in a statement.
Team Downey and Boat Rocker’s Matador Content will produce the series which is set to launch on Discovery + at the end of 2022.
Chief brand officer of Discovery, Nancy Daniels said of the project: “We are excited to bring audiences a series that shows the spirit of who Downey is and puts his passion for the environment center stage. That, and who better than Robert Downey Jr. to make eco-friendly cars look this good? “
Team Downey, the entertainment company founded by Downey Jr. and his wife Susan Downey previously worked with Discovery + on series The Bond. The husband and wife production team’s previous projects include: Dolittle, Perry Mason spirit Sweet Tooth.
Meanwhile, Downey Jr. can be seen in the upcoming star-studded Oppenheimer movie, and last month we got a first look at him and Peaky Blinders’ Cillian Murphy in action.
